I Want This Tattoo Gone Now!
We understand that when the decision is made to remove a tattoo, sooner is better than later. If only it were possible to remove it in one session. Unfortunately with laser tattoo removal as well as other tattoo removal options, one treatment is just not going to get the job done. Tattoo removal, especially laser tattoo removal, is a process, one that can potentially take several months or more depending on numerous factors (see our other blog posts or our FAQ’s to find out what some of these factors are).
Why is the process such a lengthy one? The laser targets the ink in the skin which then heats up and shatters into smaller particles that the immune system is able to remove through a natural and primarily internal process. You will be able to see some removal through the surface of the skin, but the majority of the process is carried out internally. Because the immune system is the main force in removing tattoo ink, time is required to allow removal as well as to allow healing to occur both on the surface of the skin and below. Some patients have very strong active immune systems and heal very quickly while others require a bit more time. Treating an area before the immune system has had time to work through much of the shattered ink can result in the need for an additional treatment or two, a more uncomfortable laser session, or possibly the potential for increased risk of tissue damage. For these reasons we recommend waiting at least 4-6 weeks between treatments. If there is reason to believe more time would be beneficial to you, that recommendation will be made on an individual basis.
At Vanish, the ultimate goal is removing your tattoo as quickly as possible with the best results possible for you. Each person is different as is each tattoo; therefore, we will make recommendations on an individual basis. As always, if you have questions about your treatment, the recommendations of the laser specialists, or your individual healing process, please do not hesitate to ask. We want you to be as comfortable as possible with the entire process.
