Tattoo Artist Banned From Career Day
In Tampa, Florida a father has been banned from participating in his daughter’s middle school career day. Why? His career is that of a tattoo artist and shop owner. Many parents at the school do not want Mr. Smith sharing his “alternative lifestyle” with their children. Mr. Smith says he believes tattooing is not looked at as a legitimate career.
In the previous two years, Mr. Smith has been allowed to participate. He says he discourages students from getting tattoos before they are 18 and explains that the tattooing process is “similar to a surgical procedure” requiring certain precautions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
The principal of the school, who ultimately made the decision to ban Mr. Smith said his decision is “not personal, but politically correct.” The principal admits to having tattoos and piercings himself.
